Most of us have heard of the go-to, front of the class locations on Oahu; Pearl Harbor, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Waimea, North shore in general. But what about the other places? There’s more to Oahu than the previously mentioned. Not knocking them at all, all of those places are a must go. However, this post isn’t about the must go. It’s about the forgotten gems in the back of the class. The quiet ones that don’t make a lot of noise, but when looked into, turn heads while surprising even the most austere eye. Let’s take a trip.

Bishop Museum- If you are wondering where the picture above is taken.

Bishop Museum. Have you ever wondered what the Hawaiian Kings and Queens (Ali’i) wore during their rein? Well, here is your chance.I’ll be honest, it took me about 15 years to actually step foot into the Bishop Museums\’ massive grounds. I just wasn’t interested. On the outside, while driving by on the freeway, it never really caught my eye. when I found out what it was, that is when my interest peaked.

One of the things you will have a taste of while on our Oahu Circle Island Tour is historical knowledge, so we won’t delve too much into the history in these blogs. That being said, the Bishop Museum was thought of by Charles Reed Bishop in honor of his late wife Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop (Ke Ali’i Pauahi) the last descendant of the Royal Kamehameha family.

Now, it was built on the previous campus of the Kamehameha Schools (thought of by Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop and built 3 years AFTER her death). The decor alone inside of this museum will loosen your jaw. The Bishop Museum has over a million artifacts and even houses hands on activities for the little ones. This is a truly historic place and must not be passed by if you are on the road to a true Hawaii experience.
